Overview

Hawa Mahal, the "Palace of Winds," is Jaipur's most iconic landmark, built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh. This five-story pink sandstone structure features 953 small windows (jharokhas) designed to allow royal ladies to observe street festivals and daily life without being seen, following purdah (veil) tradition. The unique honeycomb design creates natural air conditioning, keeping the palace cool even in summer heat. The facade is stunning from outside, but climbing to the top offers panoramic views of Jaipur's Pink City, City Palace, and Jantar Mantar.
