Pushkar Camel Fair
World's largest camel fair with livestock trading, cultural events, and Rajasthani traditions
Overview
The Pushkar Camel Fair (Pushkar Mela) is an annual 5-day festival held during Kartik Purnima (October-November full moon). What began as a camel and livestock trading fair has evolved into one of India's most vibrant cultural festivals. Over 50,000 camels, horses, and cattle are traded by thousands of tribal herders who gather from across Rajasthan. The fair includes cultural competitions - longest mustache contest, bridal competition, turban tying, snake charmer performances, folk music and dance, camel races, and even a "Mr. Pushkar" pageant. Giant Ferris wheels, food stalls, handicraft markets, and carnival games create festival atmosphere. The sacred lake sees mass holy bathing on the final full moon night. The fair is photographer's paradise with vibrant colors, traditional costumes, and rural culture on display.
