Overview

Bandhavgarh National Park holds the distinction of having the highest density of Bengal tigers in the world, making it arguably the best park in India for tiger sightings. Once the private hunting reserve of the Maharaja of Rewa, this park is famous for being the place where the last known white tiger was captured. Spread over 105 square kilometers of core area, Bandhavgarh is characterized by steep ridges, dense sal forests, and open grasslands dominated by the ancient Bandhavgarh Fort atop a hill. With tiger sighting success rates often exceeding 90%, photographers and wildlife enthusiasts consider this park a must-visit destination.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about visiting Bandhavgarh National Park

The best time is March to May (summer months). Tigers are most visible during this period as they frequent waterholes and stay active in cooler morning/evening hours. Winter (October-February) is also good with comfortable weather, though tigers may be less visible in the dense forest.
We recommend at least 4-6 safaris (2-3 days) for a very high chance of tiger sightings. Bandhavgarh has the highest tiger density in India, and most visitors see tigers within their first 2-3 safaris. Booking both Tala and Magdhi zones increases your chances.
Yes! Children 5 and above generally enjoy Bandhavgarh safaris. The high probability of seeing tigers makes it exciting for kids. However, safaris are 3-4 hours long in open vehicles, so young children need to be comfortable sitting still and patient. Many resorts offer family-friendly activities.
Essential items include: binoculars, camera with telephoto lens (300mm+), neutral-colored clothing (greens/browns), sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, and a light jacket for early morning chills. Avoid bright colors or strong perfumes. Most resorts provide blankets for morning safaris.
You can book safaris online through the official MP Forest Department website, but many visitors find it easier to book through resorts or tour operators who handle permits, guides, and vehicle arrangements. During peak season (March-April), booking 2-3 months in advance is recommended.
