Jaswant Thada
White marble cenotaph with intricate carvings, peaceful lake, and fort views
Overview
Jaswant Thada, built in 1899, is a white marble memorial cenotaph dedicated to Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. Often called the "Taj Mahal of Marwar," this elegant structure features intricately carved marble lattice screens (jalis) so thin that they glow when sunlight passes through. The memorial houses portraits of Jodhpur rulers and a beautifully carved marble gazebo. The complex sits beside a peaceful lake surrounded by terraced gardens with bougainvillea and other flowering plants. The location offers stunning views of Mehrangarh Fort towering above. The serene atmosphere makes it a perfect contrast to the imposing fort nearby - a peaceful retreat for contemplation and photography.
