Jodhpur
Blue City
The Blue City - dominated by magnificent Mehrangarh Fort and blue-painted houses
Overview
Jodhpur, the "Blue City," is the second-largest city in Rajasthan, known for its sea of indigo houses surrounding the massive Mehrangarh Fort. Founded in 1459 by Rao Jodha, the city served as the capital of the Marwar kingdom. The imposing Mehrangarh Fort, one of India's largest, sits 125 meters above the city offering spectacular panoramic views. The blue color of houses in the old city was originally used by Brahmin families but spread throughout the walled area. Jodhpur is famous for its antiques, textiles, handicrafts, and the bustling Sardar Market near the Clock Tower. The city offers adventure activities like zip-lining across the fort and is known for delicious Mirchi Vadas and Mawa Kachori.
